Update: Changes and Improvements Made

Hello! After our exams we have gathered for a meeting and discussed about our project's timeline and design under the supervision of Ms Rubaina.

We have decided to make a few changes to our design.

Design

We realised that our previous design would interfere with the measurement of the light parameter. This was because the XDK would be covered as such, preventing light from being recorded. Another issue we noted was where we were going to place the sensors in the mushroom hut. As we do not know how the interior of the hut looked like, we were unsure if there was enough space for our design.

Keeping the above in mind, we came up with a new design.

New Design

This is the front cover of the box. It has a LCD Screen display with shows the temperature and humidity of the environment as they are the 2 major factors that affects the growth of the mushroom.

In addition, 3 brightly lited LED buttons each serving a different purpose.

The Blue Led button is to be pressed when the housewives water the mushrooms in the farm.

The Red Led button is to be pressed when that the mushrooms cultivated from the cycle is of bad quality.

The Green Led button is to be pressed when the mushrooms harvested from the cycle is of good quality.

For the new design, we have decided to store all the electronics inside a waterproof box. This would prevent the electronics from getting wet. However, as we were afraid that the interior of the box would be too hot due to the heat produced from the running electronics, a fan has been installed at the side for ventilation.

The XDK which needs to be able to record data from the surroundings, will be placed above the box and protected from water splashes.

Data Recording on Google Excel Spreadsheet

We have been running the system for awhile and this is some of the data uploaded!

(nil means that no buttons have been pressed)

SMS Notification System

Our GPRS Shield uses 2G network and this network would shut down in Singapore on the 1st of April. As such, we needed to do the testing as soon as possible!

Our SMS notification system is working well!

Here is a screenshot of the SMS when the parameters are out of range.

Conclusion

The team is getting ready for our Indonesia trip whereby we will leave on the 8th April morning!

We are currently troubleshooting, thinking of a backup plan as well as packing for the trip.

Till then!
